TERRORISM SITUATION

-         Please be advised that our Travel Policies (in line with the majority of other travel Policies) do not cover Acts of Terrorism or the threat thereof. However, Claims made under the Emergency Medical section of the policy as a result of these Acts will usually be handled as best as we can, depending upon the circumstances.

We can provide the following advice

-         If a flight is cancelled, the airline/tour operator should reimburse the insured or provide an alternative.

-         If a flight is delayed, there is NO COVER under the policy for Compensation or Abandonment. However airlines usually make alternative arrangements to help customers.

-         Some policyholders will be delayed returning to the UK due to airport closures and may incur additional travel and accommodation expenses.  The airline/tour operator should provide accommodation in these circumstances and the insured should contact them in the first instance.  We will however look sympathetically at Claims where an expense is incurred which cannot be recovered from the airline/tour operator – excluding daily living expenses (food, telephone, drink etc.)

Your policy will automatically extend to provide usual cover (subject to normal terms and conditions),

due to delayed/cancelled flights caused by a Terrorism Situation.

Return must be to the UK at the first available opportunity.

Any claims made under the Travel Delay Section as a result of Terrorism are EXCLUDED.

-         Policyholders who are asked to put valuable items in checked-in baggage, should be aware that the airline is responsible for baggage which is in their possession and if the Insured suffers a loss, they should claim against the airline.

-         We will look sympathetically at claims for loss of valuable items whilst in checked-in baggage ONLY where hand luggage has been restricted in this manner and ONLY in the event that the Insured isn’t able to make a recovery from the airline or other insurance i.e. a Household Insurance All Risks Section.

-          However, every effort must have been made to ensure the security of these items to prevent loss or damage whilst in transit.

-         Policyholders should always ensure that their valuables do not exceed the Single Article/Total Valuables Limits as stated in the policy.

-         NB: The Total Valuables Limit is the maximum amount we will pay under the policy for loss/damage for ALL your valuables (as defined by the policy).

Items that exceed these limits should be separately insured.

Please be aware that the Warsaw Convention no longer applies to flights that commence within the European Union, or involve an EU Airline.

Claims against an Airline/Operator for Delay, Loss of Baggage etc., are Governed by current EU Legislation
